Important entrance exams

Apart from IIT-Jee and AIEEE, there are many important engineering exams. Scores of these exams is used by some best Institutes of the country. I will try to list some of these exams

1) IIT-JEE

2) AIEEE (for admission into NIT's and some other collges like DA-IICT)

3) BIT-SAT is conducted by BITS Pilani for admission into BITS Pilani-Pilani campus, BITS Pilani-Goa campus, BITS Pilani-Hyderabad campus. BITS Pilani-Pilani campus is know all over the world and in terms of reputation, it is just next to best IIT's of country.

Website http://www.bitsadmission.com/bitsat/bitsatmain.htm

4) Most states have an entrance exam for admission into state engineering colleges.
for example in Maharashtra MHT-CET is conducted for admission into universities in Maharashtra like Mumbai and Pune university
website http://www.dmer.org/vol.htm

5) Combined Entrance Examination (CEE) is used for admission into NSIT (Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology) and DCE(Delhi College of Engineering)

6) Apart from these colleges Anna University has good reputation.

I may have missed some exams or colleges. If you are aware of any exam, write about that in a comment.

Preparing for AIEEE

If you are preparing for AIEEE, you are likely to be under one of fpllowing categories

1) Preparing for IIT-JEE
If you are also preparing for IIT-JEE, concentrate on IIT-JEE. You will cover AIEEE syllabus in IIT-JEE preparation.
Do some AIEEE sample papers in the month of january.
In AIEEE speed is more important, questions are not too conceptual or difficult.

2) Studying in CBSE, not preparing IIT-JEE
AIEEE exam is completely based on CBSE syllabus. Do your NCERT properly. Some Maths questions can directly come from NCERT

CBSE reference books like R.D Sharma, Pradeep are very helpful in AIEEE preparation.
For inorganic chem, NCERT is sufficient
Keep solving MCQ's at end of Reference Books.
Solve sample papers from time to time

3) Studying in State Board
Don't have much idea about state board syllabus, but you should look into CBSE books.

Coaching Institutes in Kota

I don't have much idea about coaching institutes at Kota. I have heard of Bansal and resonance. But most big cities have coaching Institutes as good as any Kota coaching Institute. A large number of students are selected from Kota, not because they are provided any special classes, but because Kota has very large number of students and percentage of students selected from Kota is almost same as any other city.

If you have any good Institute near your home, it may be better to study there.

Coaching Institutes for IIT-JEE preparation

IIT-JEE has made several changes in exam pattern to prevent growth of coaching Institutes. In this article I would like to answer some questions related to coaching Institutes

Should I join coaching?

Yes join a chaching Institute. Take a coaching near your place. I would like to list some of the advantages of coaching Institutes.

1) Good Teaching provided by Institutes which helps in clearing concepts

2) Regular tests and classes keep you motivated to study all the time.

3) You compete with other students and this always help you to improve.

4) They provide you right study material

Before selecting coaching Institute you should

1)Try to find percentage of students selected from the coaching in last few years. Many Institutes give advertisements in newspaper claiming that these many students from their Institute cleared exam. Very these facts. Institutes may give misleading Information.

2) Look into number and qualification of their teachers.

3) Most Importantly Interact with current students of coaching before finalizing it. Ask them how is this Institute as compared to other Institutes of locality.

4) Join coaching which provides good competitive environment. Competition is dependent on students of the Institute.

But always remember that Teachers can only help you in your preparation, you will have to do the hard work.

Starting IIT-JEE Preparation

When I started my preparation for IIT-JEE, I had many questions I wasted my time in finding answers to those questions. So I thought of writing this blog to help students preparing for IIT-JEE. I will try to answer frequently asked questions related to IIT-JEE preparation

What is IIT-JEE?

IIT-JEE is an entrance exam for all IIT’s, IT-BHU, ISMU Dhanbad. IIT's and IT-BHU are best engineering Institutes of India. Admission to these engineering institutes is through this entrance exam.

When to start? Time Required for IIT-JEE Preparation?

Students generally start their preparation for IIT-JEE from 11th standard. They spend two years on preparation and then give exam in April after their 12th Boards. Those who clear this exam are given All India rank. Certain seats are reserved. Based on rank students are called for counseling. Some students who are not able to clear exam in first attempt take a drop for a year after their 12th and devote their time for preparation. Many Students get admission into other top engineering institutes of India through other engineering entrance exams.

How should I start my preparation?

Don’t try to solve IIT questions or some very difficult questions in the beginning. Starting with CBSE syllabus could be a good option. This exam is not about practicing difficult questions. IIT-JEE requires good understanding of basic concepts and continuous hard work for 2 years.

Which books should I use?

Use study material suggested by your teachers. Most coaching institutes prepare their own study material. They have good experience and they would give right guidance. I studied in CBSE school during my 11th and 12 th. and I found CBSE syllabus really helpful. Some books which were popular during my preparation days are

Maths

NCERT Math Text book

R.D Sharma--- (Good books for starting any topic

M.L Khanna

Physics

NCERT Book

Pradeep--- Reference book for CBSE

H.C Verma part1 and 2

Physical Chemistry

NCERT Book

O.P Aggarwal

Pradeep--- Reference book for CBSE

Organic Chemistry

NCERT

Moreson boyd

Pradeep--- Reference book for CBSE

Inorganic Chemistry

Inorganic requires cramming. Most students spend very less time on this. Doing NCERT completely would be sufficient.

I plan to write similar post for AIEEE and other exams.

Your questions and comments would motivate me to write.
